The New HGTV House is here in Utah!

I live not too far away from where the new

HGTV house is being built!

Me, my mom and my sister

were up in the area shopping and thought

it would be fun to stop by and take a PEEK!

Here are some pics.

They won't let you get too close to the property,

so this is the best I could do.

It looks like it is going to be so beautiful!

The best BaNaNa Bread EVER!

This is one of my very Best friends recipe!

It is soooo Yummy!

But I am a little bit of a Health Freak,

so I tried to make a little bit Healthier

and it actually turned out super delicious!

This is the Original recipe

(Healthier version in)

Cream: 1/2c. shortening (1/2 c. coconut oil)

*Coconut Oil from Health food store

1 1/2c. sugar

Add: 2 eggs

(Eggs from our own chickens pictured below)

*I doubled it so there are 4 eggs in this pic.

Mix together

Add: 1c. mashed bananas

*about 2 bananas

Set aside 1/4 c. sour milk

*1/4c. milk 2 tbs. vinegar

(Rice milk and apple cider vinegar with the "Mother")

*Rice milk from Costco

*Vinegar from Health food store

1 tsp.vanilla

Slowly add in:

2 c. flour

(whole wheat flour)

*I use this kind or grind my own in my Vita-Mix

*this flour is Non-GMO

*Certified Chemical free

*Unbleached

You can get this at Walmart!

1/4 tsp. baking powder

(Aluminum Free)

*from costco

3/4 tsp. soda

1/2 tsp. salt

(sea salt)

Mix all together!

Bake at 350 for about 55 minutes

*Makes 1 large loaf

I doubled it so there are two!

So Yummy :)

Board and Batten Living Room!

We have only been here a our new home a month,

but I just couldn't leave well enough alone!

I had to do a project!

My husband thinks I should just concentrate on unpacking

and I totally understand his point!

But I couldn't help myself!

I wanted the living room to be welcoming and fresh!

I love all this Board and Batten I have been seeing!

And blue is the new red!

So I decided to paint!

This is what the room looked like before.

The red was a pretty red, but just not for me.

It made this large room seem too small.

Here is the room primed

Here is it painted.

I chose Benjamin Moore Puritan Grey

for the main part of the room.

It is a real pretty blue grey.

I painted the lower 2/3 of the room

the same color of the trim.

Which I am not quite sure what color that is .

They just had a left over can in the garage.

Here is a pic with the boards put up.

The boards were very simple to put up!

My husband did the math so that the boards were

spaced evenly across the wall.

(I think we just measured the length of the wall,

decided about how far apart I wanted them spaced,

decided about how many boards that would be,

and divided the length by the number of boards,

and that gave us the space in inches. I think :)

We purchased primed 1x3's from Home Depot for the main part.

a 1x2 for the top, and a little piece of decorative corner round to go under the 1x2.

It really was a piece of cake.

Neil cut the boards and I hung them.

Together we made a pretty good team!

Curtains are drop clothes from Home Deopt.

They came out with this seam I am not too fond of,

so I am thinking of sewing a strip of material through the middle.

Or take them down all together and get something

more custom. It is hard to get curtains for this house because I have 9'

ceilings. Which I love, don't get me wrong, but

for the curtains to go above the windows I need

ones that are 108" long.

Those are hard to find!

And if I can find them they are expensive!

Very happy with how they turned out!

So why stop with the living room?

I decided to put it in the entryway too.

The color in the entry was also

just too dark for me.

I wanted the entry to look nice and bright

when you walked in!

I wasn't quite sure what color I wanted the entry.

So for now it is the same color as the rest of the house.

But is lighter and I like it a whole lot better!

So far I am loving the look!

I have since caulked and painted it.

And also hung a mirror.

I would love to get a fun antique dresser

or buffet for the space!

We've Moved!!!

We have moved to our "Dream Home"!

Moving here has been such a blessing

for our family!

We feel like Heavenly Father led us to the right place!

We feel so fortunate and blessed!

The people here are amazing and wonderful!

We have found an amazing place to raise

A sweet little "Artist" Birthday Party!

My sweet little girl just turned "7"!

I can't believe time has gone so fast!

Avery is such a thoughtful sweet girl!

She has so much talent and potential!

We are so very happy that she is a part of our family!

I try to have a fun Birthday Party for the kids!

My mom always made everything so special for us

and it is such a fun memory.

So I want to do that for my children.

For her Birthday she wanted to do an

ArTiSt PaRtY!

I found some cute things at Target in the Dollar isle.

We decided to let each child that she invited,

paint their own cavas.

We found those on sale at JoAnn's.

And then we got the basics (plates, cups, napkins, balloons etc)

at Walmart and the Dollar Store.

It turned out to be a hit!

Here's what went down...

A sweet girl that I had just met.

Let me come over during her precious

twin boy's nap time and helped me makethis sign!

It turned out just perfect!

The FUN treat table!

We dipped marshmellows (Artist Brushes), and got

primary colored candy to fill the table with!

Skittles, licorice, dum dum suckers, & dots.

We also got some fun glass bottles, red & orange, of Crush.

We let the kids fill their own treat bags at the end!

You would think that would be a disaster,

but they did really well!

We thought it would be fun to make

a Cool entrance to the party!

On the labels for the treats and also on the names for

the treat bags(forgot to take that picture),

we used primary colored paint strips.

I ran out of time to make the Palette shaped cake that I wanted to.

So we substituted with cupcakes with Primary colored frosting on them.

I found these fun candles that went "Perfect" with everything!

We also had playdough shaping contests!

The Girls had so much fun and were so creative!

How to paint ceramic tile

This ceramic tile was pretty outdated and because of budgets reasons and time, it could not be replaced.

So I decided to paint it! I had some Zinsser Primer that could be used on ceramic tile.

So I slapped it on that pink tile and covered it up with some nice tan paint.

I also cut some simple molding and put it up in a large rectangle. And then painted that whole area white, including the mantel.

This Laundry Room was a fun project.

It was full of Americana Decor.

From the curtains, to the light plate, to garbage can.

So once again, it was time to update!

Master Bedroom Before and After

This master was huge! It had two walk in closets!

It was just a bit outdated!

But paint can fix just about anything! Right?

So I took down the wall paper, the curtains and the flower wallpaper.

Painted over the taupe and eggplant colors!

Painted it a soft cream and a pretty gray blue. Added some soft sheers that let the light in.

And after I think we have a nicely updated Master Suite!

The kitchen did not change a whole bunch. There was only so much I could change in the amount of time that we were here. I would have loved to take out the dropped ceiling and have painted the cabinets.
But there wasn't time.
So really the only change I made was painting, taking down a shelf, taking down some curtains, putting up some curtains and putting up a coat rack.

I know the after is not huge, but from the pink paint

it is definetley an improvment.

You can't tell in the picture, but the new paint looks much better with the countertops.

This coat rack was over the stairs and as you walked down the stairs, unless you were 7 ft. tall you couldn't use the rest of it. And as we are 5 ft 6 in and under, we could only use the first 3 ft. of it. So, to make it more useful I took it down and moved it to a more useful spot. I had to paint it and spray paint the hooks.

I like it much better here!

Living Room makeover

I know I promised I'd show you the Living Room yesterday. Sorry! I got a little side tracked! I am trying to get ready for an Open House here on Saturday. Here are some of the pictures of the befores and afters. I thought I got one of the curtains on the windows, but I guess I didn't. Just imagine white lace valances. I am sure they were in style at one point, but just not anymore!

Since I skipped a night I will do the Dining Room too.

Professionally painted vines.
Once again, I am sure they were nice at on point.
But not anymore!

Here are the lace curtains I was talking about.

AFTER

I sanded over the vines so they wouldn't show through the paint.
Painted the top part of the walls two shades darker than the Living Room.
Replaced the curtains with paint drop clothes.
I was happy with the turn out!

What I have been up to lately!

I have been absent for quite some time from my blog! There has been an awful lot going on in my life lately and I just cannot keep up everything! So this unfortunatley was the first to go.

~We sold our house in Oct.

~Moved out in Nov.

~Renivating a home that we are living in for some good friends.

~Trying to buy a short sale

~Not to mention a birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, driving my kids back and forth to their school and lessons about 3-5 times a day!

Whewww!

Renivating this house has been a fun project.

And we have been very lucky to have had the chance to stay here.

It has been a ton of work, but very fun to see the change that a little paint and curtains can do!

Progress on one of my favorite makeovers!

Well since then I got hooked up with the owners of the house(who are great by the way!) and I am helping them re-do the house!

Slowly but surely it is coming along!

They have five kids, a chiropractic business and some farm animals to take care of! As if thats not enough they are trying to renivate this beautiful house.

So you see what I mean about the slowly but surely part!

They have done all of the work themselves! I have just given my suggestions.

I am really excited about this makeover! Here is the progress on it so far!

If you remember the stairs used to look like this!

Now they look like this!

We added some molding under the chair rail, tore off the decals on the sides of the stairs, filled in where the decals were, painted everything white, and tore out all the carpet.

Next there will be new caps on the stairs that will be stained brown.

The railing will also be stained the same brown.

They tore out the old hard wood because the wanted throughout

the house and it was too hard to match it up to the old stuff. It was previously just in the entry.

I think what they picked out is beautiful!

This is the color that we are painting the entry.

It is Plantation Beige from Kwal.

That sponge painting just has to go!

Don't ya just love that floor?

They painted the coffered ceiling in the family room all white.

They were a grayish color before.

Since the ceiling aren't super high we wanted to lift up the ceiling!

I think it did the job!

We choose Handsome Blue for the walls.

I think it goes great with the slate on the fireplace

and also the accents of blue in the rug!

My client loves garage sales and shopping on KSL (Utahs form of Craiglist).

She picked up this bench for FREE!

Can you believe it?

The seat on the bench is just a little warped,

so they are cutting a new seat out and restaining it!

Fun Living Re-Do

My Great Sis-in-Law refered her fun neighbor to me!

She wanted to start with her Living Room and it was such a fun project!

She wanted to go with some fun colors, so I had her pick out a fun rug to base the project around.

She choose the cutest rug with some great colors in it that worked great in her house.
Together we went and picked out things that we thought would look cute in the room!
And then I placed them for her!

This chair was to die for!

She had this clock for 3 years and just wasn't sure where to put it!

Well we found the perfect spot!

It was a fun project with a fun client!

We did some in the Family Room also!

A Cute room for a Cute Girl!

One of my clients wants me to add a few little touches to her 3 girl's rooms. We started off Miss K's room first.

For just over $100 we made this room fit for a little princess!

They already had great furniture and a cute bedspread, so we just added a few accessories!

Here is how the room started off.

Not too bad but just a little plain.

AFTER:

So what we did was added some poka dot pillows to the bed,

some cute pictures to the wall with little shelves under them to give them some weight,

a cute butterfly in the corner to give the room some whimsy,

and a white curtain rod and cute lavendar curtains with polka-dot ribbon.

We are next going to add a big magnet board for her to put all of her art, pictures, etc.

I Loved this Lamp!

It can go from little girl, to pre-teen, to teen!

The trim on the curtains matches the cute

polka dot rug at the end of her bed and the pillows on her bed!

When you are doing a room just try to coordinate things.

I took the lavendar out of the bedspread and decided to use that as my main accent color.

Then I found things with polka dots and decided to go from there.

We did this room for like $130.

Not too shabby!

Polka Dot Rug

I just got a new rug for Avery's Room and I love it!

It matches her room perfect and best of all it was a great deal!

It is a Pottery Barn Rug, 5x7, that is usually around

$300 and I got it for $75!

I was feeling a little ambitious today and

thought I would tackle a little porch project!

I am trying to keep my projects under

budget so this was done pretty cheap!

So here it goes...

I started off with 3 pumpkins of descending sizes, spray painted cream, and a pot that I already had and spray painted black.

I broke off the stems of the bottom and middle pumpkin...

Drilled a 1/2" hole the top of the bottom pumpkin, the bottom and top of the middle pumpkin,

and the bottom of the top pumpkin

Set the pumpkin's in the pot. Threaded the dowel through the pumpkin's...

Put some leaves in between them...

And the whole project cost:

-pumkins $5

-Spray paint $4

-Pot free

-Leaves free

I got these cute mums for $1.22 a piece.

Total $3.66

This chair from kitchen broke a few days ago and was on the trailer to go to the dump.

I saw it and thought that it would be cute on my porch with something on it.

I already had this pot of geraniums my mom got me for Mother's Day.

I thought it looked cute!

My mom gave me this wreath a couple of years ago

and I had the burlap in my craft room.

Total Cost: $12.66

Not too bad!

I am Still Here!

I am still alive!!! I can't believe it has been so long since I have blogged! Over 3 months! Holy Cow! We have had a busy summer and I have just felt like a needed a huge break!

But I am back in the game now!

Awhile back I started to do my friends kids' rooms. I am going over today to hang up this vinyl chandeleir that I finished last night. And then I will post the rest of the pictures of her room. For now here is how I did the hanging.

I friend of mine (hello Susan!) asked me

for some ideas for her kids' bedroom.

The bedroom is shared by one CuTe little girl and one CuTe little boy.

Sometimes it is hard to come up with ideas to suffice both.

I wouldn't do a decor too specific to either gender.

Don't divide the room; boy on one side and girl on the other.

They are sharing. Make the room so that both of them are happy to be in it!

Susan told me that the bedroom is already green. Which is a great color to start with and NOT gender specific.

Here are a few ideas and colors that would be great for them!

Using Old with the New

I helped my Second Mom today with her house. She just got new beautiful hand scraped wood floors, Bead board on some of her walls, new iron stair rails and textured walls. She wanted me to come over and help her put everything back together. She is a lover of sentimental old junk like me, so together we make the perfect pair of junkers.

I had a blast going through every room in her house and her garage, looking for junk. These are just some of the things that I found!

I will hopefully show you soon what we did with these fun treasures!

Making Memories Meaningful

I have always been sentimental and love to have family pictures displayed around my home. Old and new. My favorites are old family pictures of my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents.

Here are a few ways that I make memories meaningful...

There is a cute newer subdivision here in Ut called Daybreak. The subdivision has homes that are brand new, but reminisent of the old.

They are great homes and I was so glad that I finally made it up there.

Decorations for a 6 year old's Birthday!

My only baby girl turned the BIG 6 on Friday! She wanted a Butterfly Birthday! So we headed off to search for some fun things.

We found these flowers that had

butterflies mixed in with them.

We played a fun game where we hide a butterfly outside

with their name on it and they had to go

outside and find it with their nets.

After they got to pick a prize!

These are the prizes that we found. Some fun butterfly wings...

Some necklaces and we made each girl a hair flower!

She and the girls had a great time!

A Pin Board Re-done

Here is another project that I have done for my friends little girls room. This is for her eldest daughter. The mirror in the post down below is for her middle daughter. Her eldest daughter "A", is 8 years old. So we wanted to do a room for her that she can grow into. I found this pin board at the thrift store for $4. I spray painted it a high-gloss black, cut out some burlap, glued it on with my hot glue gun, took some pretty damask ribbon and glued that on! I think it turned out pretty great!

A Mirror Makeover

My Good friend needed help with her kids' rooms. I told her I would be happy to help! I also said that I could do each bedroom for $100! So, thrift store here I come! Here is a mirror that I found and madeover for one of her girl's bedroom!

Here is how it started out!
$10 Mirror

Wasn't really going for the Safari

theme, so it had to be changed!

Had some damage that I fixed up

with some good 'ol wood putty!

Got out my trusty cans of primer and paint

Primed and painted the edges

Layed out my scrapbook paper and

decided which order I wanted them to go in.

Paper $4

I took each paper one by one and layed the straight edge of the paper against the straight edge of the mirror and then with my finger I just ran along the curve to dent the paper. I then cut it out, layed them in place and applied modge podge to the mirror and layed down my paper. Be sure to press well to get out all the bubbles.

Here it is all done!

My good friend is a real-estate agent and asked me for some help on a house that she is selling.

Of course I was flattered and said YES! The house was in really good shape, just needed some things moved around and some things taken down to make it more buyer friendly.

You will have to excuse the pictures!

The time of the day made the lighting hard to work with!

Moved all of the previous furniture and brought up this lovely mirror and sofa table from their basement and added these two cute lamps that were hidden in the bedroom!

This kitchen was very nice before! Just took down a few of the owners things off of the cabinets to give it a fresh new look! Note to sellers: Always be sure to clean off your fridge!

DINING AFTER:

Sorry, no before pics. I took away 2 of the chairs,

cleared off the table and moved it away from the wall to make the space appear larger

BEDROOM 1 BEFORE:

Was a toy room for their grandkids, but I thought it was

important to make this room what it is supposed to be.

Added a bed that we got from their basement as well!

Moved the bed to a different wall, added some

art found in the basement, and added a cute little lamp.

MASTER BEFORE:

The owner loves to sit on the loveseat in her room and knit and watch TV,

but was just fine with us moving things around if it makes it easier for her to sell her house!

Brought up a wing back chair from the basement and

added a side table to make a nice sitting area.

Only a few simple small changes were needed in this home to make it seller ready! We left a small list for the owners to do on their own that will help them out in their journey of selling their home.

-Clean out closets

-Cut down perrineals in yard

-Clear out the unfinished room in the basement

-Remove some furniture from finished area in the basement

Not hard things to do, but will make a big difference!

You have to make your house, when selling, so that people don't have to imagine it a different way. People make up their minds if they are going to buy a place or not within the first 15 seconds!

I have always wanted a old wire or wooden basket to put on my porch. As luck would have it, I found one yesterday at the thrift store! Along with a spring looking flower thing! It made a nice addition to my Spring Decor!

1. I "LOVE" to sleep! (Don't we all)

I am not a nice person when I get woke up early or

don't get my full 8 hours!

2. I love to exercise! It keeps me mentally stable!

3. My favorite food that I eat every single day is Salsa!

I am not so sure it is even considered a food. Maybe a condiment!

Besides eating it with tortilla chips, which I do, I eat it with eggs, avocado's cut up, by itself with a spoon, on a salad, etc... I LOVE it!

4. I was on a Jump Rope team as a kid!

We would travel around and perform at Basketball games and competitions. It was a lot of fun! I can even still do most of it!

5. I love Egyptian history! I would love to go to Egypt someday and learn more about it and take some neat tours!

6. I am a "Tomboy" at heart.

I "hate" to get ready, love to work hard outside,

& don't mind getting dirty.

7. I am a little accident prone! I have had stitches 5 times, broke my left arm, broke my right foot, broke my tailbone 3 times giving birth, hyperextended my left knee, tore and had my ACL reconstruted on my right knee, and had a stress fracture in my left foot!

Hopefully that was not too informative! Maybe more than ya'll wanted to know!

Spring Cleaning!

The nice warm sunny weather today put me in a spring cleaning mood today. Until it started raining, hailing, and snowing. And now that is why I am sitting here, doing this.

Here is what I got done today...}

1. Cleaned the top of the kitchen cabinets with Murphy's Oil. This is great for getting that greasy substance off that seems to accumulate over time.

2. Washed down the cabinets

3. Moved the fridge and cleaned behind it (Gross)

4. Dusted the blinds in the Kitchen windows

5. Cleaned the windows and the tracks

6. Washed the curtains, dried and re-hung the curtains

7. Changed the rug under the kitchen table

8. Put a new table setting on the table

9. Vacumed

10. Laundry

I know these last couple are not spring cleaning, but my feet are hurting really bad right now and these are counting on my list!

Things left to do:

1. Revamp the craft room

2. Go through kids' closets

3. Finish Master Bedroom (Molding, wallpaper)

4. Spray Paint Chandeleir for Craft Room

5. Put up Spring Decor

6. Replace air filter for house in basement

7. Power wash the house and patio

8. Get Patio Furniture

9. Plant Pots

10. Get wood and make boxes for garden

11. Cut down perrineals in yard. (Didn't do it in the fall! Oops!)

12. Have a garage sale

13. Clean out the Garage

14. Repaint some of the baseboards

Homemade Laundry Soap

I learned how to make my own laundry soap yesterday at a fun class that went to! It ends up being about .07 cents a load! You only need 2 TBS. per load and it smells great!

Here is the recipe:

2c. Fels Naptha (or 1 bar)

1c. Washing Soda

1c. Borax

Cut up the Fels Naptha into thin slices and smash it a little bit with the flat side of the knife. It will crumble a little bit and then it is easier to blend up.

Measure the rest of the ingredients and blend them up!

Store in a glass jar and EnJoY!

Our new Master Bedroom

We were able to get a new bed a few months ago. Too make a long story short it is the bed I picked out first, then changed my mind to a black four poster bed, but the company didn't place that order like they told me and I ended up with the one that I had originally picked out. But I think in the end it was a good mistake on their part!

Since we previously had a Queen and now have a King I didn't have ANY bedding. I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted to do in there, but I found this bedding at Bed Bath N' Beyond today and really liked it. I had the same color before on the old bed, but it is just so relaxing and I never tired of it. So I got it again!

A room fit for a Princess!!!

I have once again re-done my almost 6 yr. old's room. I have never been quite satisfied with it. This time I think I acomplished what I had invisioned in my mind. I wanted something very soft, sweet and feminine. She loves pink, so of course that had to be incorporated into the design. I wanted a chandeleir, someplace to put knick knack's, her doll house, art that was all her own, a quilt, and some cute pictures of her. Words with meaning, mean a lot to me, so there had to be some form of them in her room.

Here is the BIG reveal!

Put bed on opposite wall so it is the first thing you see when you open the door.

Added MOLDING (go here), repainted,

added some vinyl, went thrifting and spray painted A LOT!

Bookcase Before:

$13 makeover ($9 for thirftstore book case, $4 for wood decals, already had primer and paint)

This originally had two doors on the bottom, which I took off.

Sanded the whole thing down, added crown molding, filled in pinecones with wood putty, added wood detail, primed and painted. Whew!

It already came with the light in it.

This plate is my daughter's Great-Great Grandmother's

I added some styrofoam to the back and covered it with material.

Just a special little place for her to pin her ~~junk~~ things on!

I always ~~take control~~ decorate the kids' rooms how I want to with a few thoughts from the them.

But I wanted there to be something in

Avery's room that was special to her.

Something that she did all by herself.

So we went to the craft store and go this canvas and let her go to town on it. This is what she came up with, which I think is very sweet. It is a picture of me and her holding hands.

I took out the carpet, painted the house white and pink (already had white paint & got pink paint for free on Glidden.com),

added beadboard painted Olive Branch (Kwal) to match her walls.

with things that were meaningful to both Avery and I.

The sweet, feminine, & meaningful I think were all accomplished!

Modge Podge Frames

My good friend asked me to help her with her children's rooms. I am really excited to take on the challenge. Here is one of the first projects for her 8 year old daughter's room.

I found these wooden frames at the thrift store for .50! Got some sweet scrapbook paper and some modge podge.

Here is the project:

Step One:

Trace around frame

Step Two:

Cut out

Step Three:

Modge podge the frame

Step Four:

Place the Paper on Frame and press down firmly

Step Five:

Go over the edges with sandpaper to get any extra paper that is hanging over

Step Six:

Modge Podge over the paper that you placed

All Done! Three frames and 20 minutes later!

Since it is the start of the new year and we all have the extra ~~crap~~ stuff from Christmas in our houses, I think it is time to organize!
Here are a few things that I did last year that have worked for me and very easy to keep up. Sometimes when we organize it is hard to keep up because were either:
1. Too lazy to put it back where it goes.
2. It isn't an efficient system that we have made.

These are things that have worked for me.

This picture is the underneath part of those built in shelves. I just took hooks and put them in the 1x3's, bought fish hook containers in the fishing dept. @ Wal-Mart, organized my jewelry to my liking.

It also works to hang bracelets and necklaces!

The rest of the sheves I use to put my pants on.

It seems to work better for me than hanging them up.

I use all white hamger for a uniform look.

I hang my clothes first according to color and then short sleeve or long sleeves.

When I take a piece of clothing off of the hanger, I simply put the hanger back where I got it from and then I know exactly where to put the item back after I am done wearing it! That way I found I am never searching for hangers.

For my shoes I went and got the dollar bins from Wal-Mart.

Make sure that they are clear so you can see what is in there without opening a bunch of containers!

I went to the thrift store yesterday and found some great deals! Nothing like a good bargain!

I found these cute fabric storage bins for $3/both. They fold down for an easy put away!

They have a little place for a label! Can't beat that for $3!

I also found this decorative tin shelf for a whopping $2!!!

This heavy duty planter was only $1!
